Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Article Types (Borneo in Pharmacology)

Original Research manuscripts present primary, previously unpublished findings. This category also welcomes confirmatory studies, negative or disconfirming outcomes, and reports on non-reproducibility that help refine, reformulate, or rule out hypotheses.
Peer review: Yes
Maximum length: 12,000 words
Required structure:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion

2) Methods
Methods articles describe a new or established method, protocol, or technique of clear relevance and interest to the field. Submissions should provide enough detail to allow reproducibility, and any analytical approaches applied to the generated data must be explained or appropriately referenced.
Peer review: Yes
Maximum length: 12,000 words
Required structure:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction (including the rationale, scope, and potential applications)
  • Materials and Equipment (reagents/materials and/or instruments; include solution preparation when relevant)
  • Methods (objectives and validation; step-by-step procedures; timing; pause points; example application(s); precision/accuracy; LoD/LoQ when applicable)
  • (Anticipated) Results (expected outputs illustrated where possible; strengths, limitations, pitfalls/artifacts, and troubleshooting)
  • Discussion

3) Review
Review articles provide an in-depth, balanced, and critical overview of a topic that has shown meaningful advances in recent years. Reviews should go beyond summarizing published work by clarifying core concepts, highlighting debates or contrasting viewpoints, identifying key challenges and knowledge gaps, and outlining future directions.
Peer review: Yes
Maximum length: 12,000 words
Required structure:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Subsections as appropriate to the topic
  • Discussion

Important note: Reviews should not include unpublished material (e.g., original/unpublished data, manuscripts under submission, or personal communications). Manuscripts containing such content may be rejected or reclassified.

4) Mini Review
Mini Reviews offer a focused and concise synthesis of a specific theme within an active research area. They should summarize recent developments and emerging concepts, address major viewpoints or controversies, identify current gaps, and discuss near-future opportunities.
Peer review: Yes

5) Hypothesis and Theory
Hypothesis and Theory articles propose a new hypothesis, model, or interpretation intended to stimulate further investigation. Submissions should provide a clear argument grounded in current evidence, accurately describe existing hypotheses/theories, and present a testable hypothesis within today’s knowledge framework. 7) Data Report
Data Reports describe research datasets with sufficient context to support interpretation and reuse. Datasets must be deposited in a public repository, and they must be fixed and made publicly accessible upon publication. Data Reports may include limited analysis to characterize the dataset, but they should not present the results of a specific hypothesis-driven study.
Peer review: Yes
Maximum length: 3,000 words
Figure/Table limit: Up to 2
Required structure:

  • Introduction
  • Data collection methods (including time period, filters/criteria, metadata, and guidance for reuse/interpretation)
  • Relevant subsections as needed (no Results or Discussion sections)

Required dataset information:

  • Dataset title/name
  • Repository/database name
  • Confidential link for peer review (to be replaced with the public link before publication)

Policy notes:
Published Data Reports may be considered for retraction if repository access becomes restricted or the dataset is removed. Dataset updates should be deposited as separate versions in the repository. Substantial new analyses or scientific insights based on the dataset should be submitted as independent research articles. Protocols and data-collection workflows may also be submitted as Methods articles.

8) Brief Research Report
Brief Research Reports present original research or preliminary findings in a shorter, more streamlined format than full Original Research articles. Submissions are encouraged to include negative results and may also report non-reproducibility when scientifically sound. Supplementary materials may be included.
Peer review: Yes
Maximum length: 4,000 words
Figure/Table limit: Up to 4
Required structure:

The submission must explain the reason(s) for the change and include only the specific elements being corrected (e.g., sentences, sections, figures). All authors must agree to the requested changes, and the Author Contributions statement should clarify the basis for the correction. Depending on the scope, corrections may undergo peer review. Requests beyond the stated corrections may not be accepted.

11) Editorial
